I don't blog as much as I used to. I am not at the top of my game and I'm sick of having to tell the world that I've not made much progress on my projects. I set goals for myself all of the time and they always seem to get set back lately. It's getting to be pretty frustrating.
I think I'm starting to figure out the whole spinning thing. Although I need to read more...the book gets MUCH more thorough later on, I realize. I went ahead and spun up one of those gray rovings that I bought ages ago.
I'm wondering if I need a new spindle? I find this one to be kind of bulky and clumsy...not to mention a bit heavy and unattractive. I don't know. The only way I can really get my hands on one is if I order one online...and then it's a risk...because I won't be able to closely inspect it to be sure it's what I want. BAH...I wish Max would just get into to woodworking already like he wants to...a lovely carved or wooden inlay spindle would be a really nice thing to learn on, wouldn't it?? Small, but functional....???? Just a thought, honey.
That Lace Blouse? Still not finished. My goal is to have most if not all of the knitting done by next Sunday. Considering that I keep getting set back, however, that goal will most likely not be reached.
Those socks? My second is less than halfway done. Max's second hasn't been started yet.

Trying my hand
Once again, I am attempting to spin. I am using some roving that I bought at a yarn store that was going out of business AGES ago.
To aid in this adventure, I got a hold of the book "Spinning in the old way" and have been reading up on proper spinning techniques.
Of course...none of that means anything.

Trying my hand, originally uploaded by Little Jezzie.
WTF?? Is it supposed to look like that? All lumpy and chunky and odd and not nice-like? I'm just wondering. I've never met a spinner in real life to ask them and my only sources of knowledge thus far have been hard-to-understand directions on the interwebs and my new book.
And So...with that....
Any spinners out there? lol ^.^

hhhhhh
My shower was great...but on the drive back from the STL, I began to feel sick.
I've been home all day...completely miserable, with a headache, sore throat, and stuffy nose.

Step on up! Scarf for sale!
I have finally put my scarf up for sale on Etsy.com!!!!

Here's the link to my store!
http://sugarsticks.etsy.com
Please, please, PLEASE...check it out and let me know what you think...even if you aren't at all interested in buying it!! I'm going to put a wiki up on my blog so that the item is always visible on the sidebar!! YAY!! I'm so excited! Hopefully some good will come of it!
Ok...so, that sock I'm working on for the Russian?? Done!! Well, at least until he tries it on and tells me it doesn't fit him comfortably.

A note on this yarn: It was purchased from Fearless Fibers etsy store...I LOVE IT! I really want to buy more to knit a pair of socks for myself! But since the socks I want to make are thigh highs and therefore require MUCH more yarn, I will be getting cheapo yarn from knitpicks for them instead. At least that's the plan right now...but I'm still holding to the "no-new-sock-yarn-until-I-finish-the-socks-I'm-working-on" promise. This sucks. :) PS--the sock really is done...that photo was taken earlier this morning!
I sort of went nuts and bought some Temari supplies. Now I just need to decide what to do on my next temari. I have a few ideas...I just need to draw them out and make sure they will work. I'm pretty good at artsy things, but I'm not much of a 3-D girl...so, it IS sort of challenging to think out a pattern in a sphere. I can do it though, I'm sure of it.

So, I'm sure everybody in the knitting blog world already knows about this. Can I just say that I'm completely enamored with the Justina skirt and the Anais tee...not to mention a couple of the other patterns there...like the Aune skirt.
PS...we have a cutesy little flower garden now:

Too bad I sliced my finger open
and it bled, and bled, and bled. I'm not feeling very well right now. :(
So, I thought I had one more repeat and then it would be on to the toe for the Russian's sock. However, I tried it on my own foot and it's about toe-time for ME. Therefore, I think I need at least one more 10 row repeat (but most likely two) before I can begin the man-toe. This sucks. I really half-wanted to get this done tonight. Oh well. I'm going to have Max try it on when he gets home from work...and just take it from there.
Until then, I'll try to work on other things. Tatoeba, the second sock in the Child's First Sock pair. I grabbed some addis in the appropriate size to give that two circular needle method a try. It seems pretty straight forward, but I'm worried about working the yarn overs...it's probably easy...probably.
I also need to work on the Lace Blouse a bit. The increases for the armholes are finished. I just need to work the thing across until it is somewhere in the ballpark of 18". This sure is one slow-moving project, but it is easy to pick up...and fun to knit, even if I'm only semi-dedicated to its completion.
...
...
Well, we all know that lately I'm obsessed with the idea of thigh-high stockings (oh, you didn't know? Well, now you do). Of course, I've mentioned these from time to time...but now I'm starting to shift my attention to these. The latter is a very CHEAP download...only a buck twenty-nine...the former is seven. Neither are going to break the bank, so to speak...and I can't buy yarn for either of them anyway...not until I've finished these other socks I have on the needles...but the question is this. Should I just download the patterns so that I have them...or is that something that will only succeed in making me miserable for a while (while at the same time tempting me away from my goals)?
Because right now...here's the thing...you see...
...
...
Well, the thing is that I don't really feel like working on the second Child's First Sock...and I'm so eager to just get Max's sock off the effin' needles...I can't imagine casting on for number two right now! How, with an attitude like this, am I ever to complete the pairs? I'm just going to have to suck it up, I guess.
Someone tell me it's OK to download BOTH of those patterns today...that I'm strong enough to just look at them...but you know what? Knit picks sock yarn is SOOOO cheap...and today was payday....
Today's payday. That's what this is about...there's a hole in my pocket.

Candied Grapefruit Rind
Today, I knitted on the purple Lace Blouse. I think I'm ready to start increasing for the arms!
I also played the good old-timey housewife role and threw together some candied grapefruit rinds.

Yes, they are good.

What I will do next time: I will most likely keep a closer eye on the syrup and remove the rinds when they become clear...before the syrup becomes crusty and hard. Some of the rinds ended up a little bit overcooked. I think taking them out sooner would have solved this problem. I lived and learned...see that?
Still no word on the results of the panel. I hope I find out tonight. It's killing me.

Call already!
Right now, I'm amusing myself with the spectacle of George...rolling on the floor with an olive...trying to get it to cooperate so he can actually eat it. Hilarious stuff.
Today, I had my panel to become a shift manager. A couple of people have already had theirs today and have gotten the results. My luck...it will take a few days for them to get in touch with me...here's hopin' I get a call tonight!! Everyone pray, if you're that kind...I appreciate it. If not...wish me all kinds of luck....I appreciate that too!
Oh, knitting. How do I love thee? How do I miss thee after a day and a half absence! The Lace Blouse has made very little progress...so, I think I'm going to try to cool it on the socks for a little bit and work a little bit more diligently on the lace. If I leave it for too long, I may never get it finished. I have to keep myself motivated with lace...even though I love it.
Epiphany: I LOVE LACE. I think I now love just about everything about it...except for ripping and fixing mistakes...but that goes for everything. I love the way lace looks...how it's all drapey and delicate. I want to knit more and more lace...a complete lace wardrobe...with socks, shrugs, cardigans, sweaters...shawls...purses...panties...
I've pretty much decided that these will be the next socks on the needles. I have, like a good little girl, also decided that I must finish at least one of the two pairs of socks I am currently working on before I can commit myself to something so marvelous as a thigh high. It's a good plan because I actually can't afford to buy yarn for them right now anyway! See how that works out?
Anyway...tonight I am going to a coffee seminar at work...it's a knitting/coffee seminar, so I am excited. We will be knitting and talking about coffee farms, how wonderful! I'll get to spend time with some people I haven't seen in a while...so, I'm pretty stoked. Plus, I'm a geek.
So, the scarf is patiently waiting to be put up for sale...I just really want Max to make a banner for me. He has a really cute idea...you'll see what it is when it's up and running. I really wish he would hurry, though, because I want to sell the thing. But I'd rather have a good presentation...perfectionist.
Ok, now I'll talk about something else. I've called Max and asked him to bring home some sort of heavy-duty cutting tool on his way to work. George pissed on the carpet...again...in a different spot...right before my eyes! I was so angry. I'm not cleaning it. I refuse to even bother with this anymore. This carpet is completely destroyed...he has ruined four spots in the hallway now. It is all right around the cats' bathroom. Tonight, the carpet is getting torn out in that section of the hallway...period. It smells...I've cleaned it a mill' and it doesn't make a difference. Even with the cement being visible, it is better than looking at the piss stained carpet...gross. But that's the end of it. I'll buy cheapo door mats at IKEA to cover it...then, when he pees there again, I can throw it in the wash or just replace the damn thing. I swear, George, you need to watch your back or you'll be in a no-kill shelter where they won't bother to take care of your diabetes before you know it! Eventually, we want to get rid of the carpet altogether anyway. So, I don't really care about tearing it apart if it means getting rid of that smell and a pesky problem.
Oh man...I wish they would call me already! I hate this waiting around business!

Goals
So...I have been participating in Project Spectrum...
It's fun.
However, I wasn't able to finish up the things I was working on these past few months. Now, the colors have changed and I've got no FOs. I have a halfway done pair of socks...and another pair with one and a half socks to go...and that's really it.
I had intended to bring out that pink shrug I started many moons ago (last summer, actually)...I never touched it. I never even looked at it. Oh well.
I sort of have a plan for this next installment of Project Spectrum. The colors are Red, Black, and Metallics. I'm kinda sorta planning on using this yarn for something "special." Kind of a secret...for now anyway.
I've been working on socks...

So...socks...yeah...socks. When my tip money comes in...I think I'll buy some circular needles...and give that a try. This four pointy stick thing is slowly wearing on my nerves. If circulars are faster and minimize ladders...I'm down.
