I am so cool that I go to Joann's, look through pattern books, find a pattern for a jacket that I just LOVE...and then I go to Gap and see a coat in a similar style (cropped with 3/4 sleeves, tweedy)! Only I will have the added benefit of creating it myself (yippee for sewing) and having it cost a whole hell of a lot less! I totally rule. AND...I like the cut and style of the pattern jacket better...it's more classic 1960's style, I think.
That's all the posting I'll do today, thanks.

An FO!
but not of the knitted variety...the sewing kind.
I made this skirt from the pattern in the (fabulous) book Sew U. If you want to learn to make your own clothes and don't know how to start, get this book! It was incredibly helpful and I think my skirt turned out awesome!
Here's my America's Next Top Model shots:

Eat your heart out, baby.
In other news, I am hangin' out with The Crochetinator and a few others tonight. We are going to knit (she'll, of course, crochet) while watching Top Model and Lost. It's gonna be a geek fest if I ever saw one.

Second post of the day
I know I've already posted today...but I just had to post again.
First bit of news: MAX GOT THE LOAN! We're getting the condo! Yay! Just as long as nothing goes terribly terribly wrong before the closing date...
Second bit of news: THIS!

The start of my Swallowtail Shawl. That was the best picture I could get.
Third bit of news: THIS!

That's right, a completed sock for SOCTOBER! I actually like this one! Now, I am going to start on the second one. The only problem that I see is that maybe I didn't make the foot long enough. The heel doesn't EXACTLY feel like it fits right. I think if I had done one more repeat of the lace pattern before the foot, it would have been better. But now I have to make the other one the same way and hope that in time they will stretch to fit me properly. Another problem is that the toe stitches seem loose and sort of "see-through." I suck, but my sock (at least by my standards) doesn't.
Happy knitting!

I really like knitting
and Max has told me that there is nothing wrong with that, but I still feel like maybe there is something wrong about it. I'm not allowed to spend every waking minute knitting...not yet anyway. I still have a lot of stuff that I need to finish before I knit myself to exhaustion. Because of knitting, I forgot all about that guide I was supposed to make for the school I went to in Japan. The study abroad fair...IS TOMORROW. SHIT! Max is going to help me out with it, but still...I was all motivated to finish it last week...early...and then I completely forgot about it. The same thing goes for that paper I'm supposed to write to finish my Japanese degree (that's right, people who know me...it still isn't finished yet). I wish I could kick my own ass sometimes, really. It all just needs to be over, that's all. Really, that's all. If I didn't have these two things to do, I really could knit completely guilt free. But for now, my knitting is done like coke...in secret, knowing I should be doing other things with all that powder under my nose. Your welcome for the vivid imagery. :p OK...so, as soon as that other business is taken care of...knitting will be guilt free. That's the plan.
Speaking of coke, I cast on another project. The Swallowtail Shawl from Interweave Fall '06. I have been working up the courage for it for a long time and finally gave in...it is looking good so far, but I haven't gotten to the P5tog's yet! Much swearing will ensue at that point, I'm sure. I'll post pictures later...I just don't feel like it right now...I only wanted to blog a bit to pull my thoughts together.

Yes, I put on pink tights
and I would like to say that I did it because the pink highlights the pattern in the sock...or that I am just wearing layers because it is sort of cold. However, the truth is that I only put those pink tights on for the sake of a photograph in order to hide my icky hairy legs...when you start wearing jeans everyday instead of a skirt or shorts, you sort of forget about that whole "shaving" thing.
But anyway...here's the sock!

I am really proud of it so far. I can't wait to start another pair! Wait...I must finish this one first. But in the spirit of starting new socks...I'll share a few of the patterns I have queued up in the meantime. There's this one...I just love it...part of me wants to make it in the same red color as the designer did for the photoshoot (she's really talented by the way). The only issue is, it is toe-up...and appears to have short rows...ick!! Another sock I want to make is actually by the same designer and can be found here. Part of me is really digging these socks, but I would definitely use a different color. I love, love, love, this sock pattern found on a bloggers page. I am currently scouring the internet for man's sock pattern for my future hubby, Max...what do we think of these? Or I could just wing a pair for the boy after I have a few sock FO's under my belt...that would certainly make them more special...being made with my own pattern. Well, anyway, that's a lot of sock business for one post...and a lot of links too.
Let's take off our socks for a moment and think about yarn. I have decided that I am taking trip to Joann's today to buy myself one of these. The website seems to sell wool too, but I'm not sure if it will be any good...I guess it's worth a try and not nearly as expensive as buying it from one of the many "farms" (I guess it's a farm, right? even without corn) that are selling them through their online shop pages. Well, whatever. I would of course want to buy a book to help me out along the way...so, I guess I'll make a trip to B&N too...I should get my tip money to pay for all of this...I don't really want to touch my bank account. Anyway, I like the idea of a drop spindle. I have always wanted to try my hand at spinning, but wheels are so expensive...I never even thought to do it the way the whole world was doing it before the 1500's! It should be fun...with lots of swearing.
That's all for today!

Another photoless post
Here I am again...blogging about knitting, but too lazy to take a picture. I knit today from the time I woke up today (around 11) until just a few minutes ago (10ish pm). My hands hurt. I know I said I'd cool it with the knitting for a while, but I just couldn't stop. I got so into the flow of this sock that I didn't even realize how long I was sitting there all hunched over holding five tiny needles in my two hands. I guess I just thought those little spasms in my hands...or those couple of times they just stopped moving when I wanted them to altogether...were only because my hands were "out of practice," as they say. No, I guess that wasn't it at all...it was because they were rightfully exhausted.
Well anyway...I have learned to love socks now. That's the point of this post. I have completed the cuff, the leg, the heel flap...I have turned the heel. I have finished the gussets and instep...and it all looks really nice...just take my word for it. I don't know if anyone remember how dissapointed I was in my last socking attempt. It was mostly because of the heel...short rows...I still can't wrap my mind around the concept. I was pleased to find that this sock did not require short rows in the heel! I tried the sock on and the heel fit quite nicely and, more important to ME, LOOKS LIKE I FEEL IT IS SUPPOSED TO!! I have pretty much decided that heel flaps and gussets are the thing for me! And top down socks, while not as easy to try on as you go, have proven to be much more satisfying!
Thank goodness I gave socks another chance! Now, I KNOW I'll finish the pair and start another sock soon!
((((I'll give ya some pictures tomorrow))))

I never thought I'd say something like this
but, I am dreaming...of even smaller needles. My first pair of needles was a size 10 or something...and I would see those tiny needles (meaning size 5's...not small at all, by the way) and I would go, "shit, I'll never be able to use something so small." Now, the smallest needles I've used is a size 2...and when I bought those I went, "Shit, size 2 is tiny...this is as small as I'll be able to go." Lately, however, I have caught myself saying, "I think a sock made with size 0's would be a tighter knit and in the end much more comfy and stylish...more like 'real' socks you buy in the store...hmmm." For those of you who do not know, the smaller the number, the thinner the needle. So 0=really friggin' skinny! I have some nice, alpaca (it's pink too) yarn just waiting to be used. I was thinking about making a shawl with it...but now that I'm trying to get into socks...it just might be turned into a pair of those...made with size 0's! I know I'm not the only crazy one, though...there is a whole universe of knitters (and bloggers) out there who totally understand where this insanity comes from.
Wow, that was a lot of talk...I just needed to get it off my chest. Phew. My snowflake sock has doubled in size...no pictures of it, though...sorry. I haven't touched my pink shrug since my last post. I am not sure if I will get any knitting in today. I have to make a Nagoya guide in time for the Study Abroad Fair at NCC. I am helping out with the fair and making the guide to fulfill the service project part from my scholarship I recieved for studying abroad. Although, I would totally help out even if I weren't required to do so because studying abroad was the greatest time of my life...I want to encourage other youngsters to do the same! :)
I've been thinking a lot about how my life has turned out to be much better than I had ever really believed it would be. Part of me thought, when I was younger, that I would never be in love (or engaged), never leave St. Louis (not that I don't love St. Louis...it's just sort of an economic hole), never graduate from college, never be happy. But the thing is...I am so happy now and I don't know who to thank other than my family (that means Max, too) and God. I know it's totally sappy, but it's sort of been on my mind all morning. I still have some "issues," but I'm doing all right. Enough "sharing" for now! Yuck!
I'll blog again soon...as soon as some knitting goes on!

Two days off work
While I am excited about having two days off work...I'm not excited about what that will do to my paycheck. It sucks to worry about money. I'm trying to get over doing that.
I was all geared up to knit like a feind last night when I was struck with a horrible headache. I just couldn't do it and I had to go to bed instead...which is why today is completely devoted to KNITTING...
With much fear, I have chosen a sock pattern for Socktoberfest. It is the Snowflake Lace Socks free pattern on Magknits.com. Why with fear? Because I hated my last sock (not even a pair) and this particular sock is different. It is, obviously, lace (we're friends again) which will up the difficulty by about....a lot. The thing is, I love socks. I was like a kid in a candy store in Japan because there were stores in underground shopping malls that sold ONLY SOCKS...really COOL ONES. I want to make my own really cool socks...and I don't want to knit the boring simple socks that beginners are supposed to start with. I want something pretty...and that's why I've chosen to fearfully cast on for the "Snowflakes." Maybe I'll finish a complete pair this time.

I'm chugging along on my pink shrug. Here's the progress:

I wonder how much longer it will take me to finish it?
Apparently, I asked off for the wrong day for The Crochetinator's Halloween party. What a dunce. Hopefully, the schedule won't go up before I can get to the calandar to change it.
In other news, I've decided that I really need to cool it with the knitting for a while...it has begun to get in the way of other things that are really supposed to be more important. I will still be knitting, but probably not every day...at least not for a while...until things are right with me again. I truly am the biggest slacker in the world...but not in an "I don't care" kind of way. It's more like a "I fear failure so I won't do it" kind of way...which I think is much harder to overcome. Anyway, enough of that.
Until next time....

I saved it as a draft
I had a nice post all ready to be uploaded. Complete with news and pictures to commemorate...really...and then blogger decided to be the biggest bitch EVER and not upload pictures for me. So, now this half-assed, stupid post will have to suffice for a while...until the "real" post is, well, posted. *UPDATE: Hey, it is "see-able" now...so please read on after the end of this post.
I found this video on youtube and thought it was hilarious. I laughed quite loudly at it.
My Hands Are Bananas
I think that this video is absolutely hilarious! You gotta love bored kids in Montana for coming up with it.

Bad, blogging person...bad, bad, bad...
I haven't blogged IN AGES. I haven't knitted anything IN AGES...can you even believe that?! I sure can't. I have made NO PROGRESS on any knitting project (I really only have two going right now) since my last knitting-related post!! The way things are going, I should have NO PROBLEM not buying yarn until my b-day (Nov. 14).
Don't think that I've been doing nothing all of the time. I have been working on some other dreams of mine quite diligently...but I won't see the fruits of it until possibly months from now...if I see them at all. It's one of those hit or miss things. Yes, I'm being incredibly vague and secretive about it...but, I'm not sure how much it would interest anybody anyway. Plus, I'm an avid believer in keeping certain things a secret so as not to jinx them. Pride is a killer of dreams, you know.
But one thing that I don't need to keep a secret is: I'M NOW ENGAGED!! I'm so excited. Here's the ring in one of those "effortless" poses:

And again in a more "tailored" pose:

And finally...the "money shot":

The specs, because girls like knowing these things: Tiffany & Co. (I feel like a princess, really), VS2 (you need a microscope to find a flaw), F color (second best, y'all), .36 CT, PT 950. It's simple and wonderful and the diamond is the PERFECT size for my little hands!
Isn't it perfect? The Russian is really the best thing that has ever happened to me. He is my sanity and I am so glad that he wants me to stick around him forever. YAY FOR ME!!!!
I am going to clean up our room now. Then, I will brush my teeth. After that, I will try to knit a repeat on the shrug (or maybe only half a repeat...or only a few rows). Then, I will work on afore mentioned "other dreams" for probably the rest of the day.
In other news, I have joined Socktoberfest! I am not sure why I have done it...because I've only knit one sock in my life and wasn't too pleased with the results. However, I am now feeling that I am willing to try again. Now, I just need to find a cute sock pattern. Any suggestions? I'll keep all posted on the progress of my decision. I do have one issue, though. I do not have a clue how to add a socktoberfest button to my blog...so, if any socktoberfesters chance upon my blog...surely, you know the drill.
